Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty or cosmetic nose surgery involves reshaping the nose in harmony with the rest of the facial anatomy, always aiming for a natural look.
Our surgeons have extensive experience and numerous successful cases.
Rhinoplasty is the surgery through which we can change the shape of the nose by making a small incision in the nostril to give it a more aesthetic appearance, noticeably improving your look.
This procedure is performed with general anesthesia and allows the bones and cartilage of the nose to be reshaped to achieve the desired result.
Our goal is to perform a functional and aesthetic surgery, always aiming for a natural appearance that suits each patient's features.
The most common concerns are: reducing the width, lifting the tip, and removing the nasal hump. In addition to improving the aesthetics of the nose, this procedure can also address functional problems such as a deviated nasal septum or hypertrophy of the turbinates, among others.
If you want to have a rhinoplasty in Monterrey, at Nubody you will find the best plastic surgeons with extensive experience in this procedure.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to modify the structure of the nose to improve its appearance and function. This type of surgery can be performed to change the shape of the tip, adjust the size of the nose, or correct functional problems such as a deviated nasal septum.
Types of Rhinoplasty at NuBody
Cosmetic rhinoplasty
Revision or secondary rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty
Secondary or revision rhinoplasty
Secondary rhinoplasty is a surgery performed when a person has already had nose surgery and wants to correct cosmetic concerns, breathing problems, or results that did not meet their expectations.
It is a more complex procedure than a first rhinoplasty because of changes in anatomy, the presence of internal scar tissue, and, in some cases, the need to use cartilage grafts.
For this reason, it requires a detailed consultation to determine which aspects can be improved and what the limitations of a new surgery are.
Open rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty is a surgical technique that allows the surgeon to directly see the internal structures of the nose through a small incision in the columella, the strip of skin that separates the nostrils.
This technique can be especially useful in cases that require complex modifications of the nasal tip, correction of asymmetries, or reconstruction of structures.
The choice between open and closed rhinoplasty depends on each patient's characteristics and the changes that need to be made.
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty uses special instruments that produce high-frequency vibrations to make controlled cuts and reshape the nasal bones.
This technology allows the bone to be worked on with precision and may reduce trauma to some nearby tissues, depending on the technique used.
However, it does not completely eliminate swelling, bruising, or the risks of surgery. Nor does it guarantee better results for all patients.
Functional rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty aims to improve breathing when there are abnormalities in the structures of the nose that make it harder for air to pass through.
It can include correcting a deviated nasal septum, problems with the nasal valves, or other anatomical abnormalities.
In certain cases, it is possible to combine functional correction with cosmetic changes, aiming to improve both breathing and facial harmony.

Benefits of rhinoplasty
The benefits of rhinoplasty are numerous. For example, improving facial aesthetics by changing the angle of the nose, as well as correcting breathing problems that affect quality of life.
This procedure allows patients to achieve the nose shape they want, whether by reshaping the tip or adjusting the nostrils.
Requirements for rhinoplasty
To have a rhinoplasty, it is important to meet certain medical conditions that allow the procedure to be performed safely and achieve results that fit your facial features.
- Good general health: not having uncontrolled medical conditions that could increase risks during surgery or make recovery more difficult.
- Complete facial development: it is recommended that the nose has finished growing, generally by the end of adolescence.
- No smoking or nicotine use: tobacco and nicotine can affect circulation and make healing more difficult. It is important to stop using them according to your surgeon's instructions.
- Prior medical consultation: the surgeon will evaluate the structure of your nose, the quality of your skin, your breathing, and the changes you want to make.
- Preoperative tests: having the lab work and medical studies that are ordered based on your age, medical history, and health status.
- Realistic expectations: understanding that the goal is to improve appearance and, when appropriate, nasal function, while respecting the individual features of your face.
- Recovery availability: having enough time for initial rest, aftercare, and follow-up appointments.
At NuBody, each patient receives a personalized consultation to determine whether they are a candidate for rhinoplasty and which technique may be best suited to their needs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where is the surgery performed, and how long is the hospital stay?
Rhinoplasty is performed in a hospital operating room. It is not advisable to perform the procedure in a doctor's office. This is an outpatient procedure. The estimated time at the hospital is one hour before the surgery and three hours after the procedure. When discharged, the patient will receive post-surgical instructions.
You must complete the surgical consent form before your surgery.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
After the first 48 hours following surgery, you can do light activities around the house. About 5 business days after surgery, you can return to work or school activities outside the home. We recommend waiting between 3 weeks and one month after surgery before returning to physical activity and sports. For sun exposure, we recommend waiting until any bruising has completely disappeared (approximately one month).
Is it possible to have pain after rhinoplasty?
It depends a lot on the patient, but it is generally not painful. Patients usually report a feeling of nasal congestion. If you have pain, you can take certain pain relievers, after checking with your doctor first.
What is the minimum age for nose surgery?
For cosmetic surgery, the ideal is to wait until the patient has enough physical and psychological maturity, which is around age 16 (this rule is not absolute), since each patient's development can vary. Rhinoplasty may be needed for minors for medical reasons or related health problems; in both cases, the consent of both parents is required.
If I don't live in Monterrey, how many days do I need to stay?
It is always best to schedule a rhinoplasty in advance and to have an in-person consultation with the specialist beforehand. The postoperative period requires approximately 7 to 10 days in the city.
When can I start wearing glasses?
You can wear glasses after the first 14 days following the operation. If you use contact lenses, you can wear them after the first 3 hours after surgery.
When will I start to see results?
When the splint is removed, you can see a change. Keep in mind that there is a swelling process in which the nose becomes swollen, and this makes the result look distorted. Two months after surgery, you can see 70% of the result. The swelling continues to go down for up to a year after surgery, producing minimal changes that are not noticeable to the patient.
What preoperative tests are required?
Your plastic surgeon will specify them, but in general:
+ Functional ENT (ear, nose and throat) evaluation to rule out hidden nasal or sinus conditions (internal deviated septum, polyps, chronic sinusitis, etc.).
+ Laboratory tests (blood work ordered by the doctor).
+ Electrocardiogram with pre-surgical cardiology evaluation (ordered after the doctor's evaluation).
+ Chest X-ray (not always necessary).
What is rhinoplasty and why is it performed?
It is a cosmetic or functional surgery that modifies the shape or structure of the nose, either to improve its appearance or to correct breathing problems.
How long is the recovery from rhinoplasty?
Initial recovery takes 7-10 days, but the final result may take 6-12 months to become apparent, depending on the type of procedure.
Is the recovery painful?
Most patients report mild discomfort that can be managed with pain relievers, rather than severe pain.
When can I resume my usual activities?
Light activities after 1-2 weeks; strenuous exercise after 4-6 weeks, according to your doctor's instructions.

More questions about rhinoplasty
Do rhinoplasty simulators show how my nose will look after surgery?
Every nose is unique, with differences in skin thickness, bone and cartilage structure, and an individual healing response. These factors influence the final result and cannot be reproduced accurately through a simulation.
At NuBody, we prefer a personalized medical consultation over using rhinoplasty simulators, because we believe it is important to set realistic expectations and to avoid giving patients an idea of a result that may not necessarily be achievable.
During the consultation, the surgeon analyzes the characteristics of your nose, listens to your expectations, and explains what changes can be made based on your anatomy, always aiming for a natural result that is in harmony with your face.
Why do some rhinoplasties go wrong? Can they be corrected?
Some patients may experience asymmetry, irregularities in the nasal contour, breathing difficulties, scarring, or aesthetic results that differ from what they expected.
It is important to keep in mind that swelling after rhinoplasty can take several months to go down, so it is not always possible to assess the final result during the early stages of recovery.
When a persistent problem exists, a secondary or revision rhinoplasty may be considered. However, not every problem requires another surgery, and not every irregularity can be completely corrected.
The best way to reduce risks is to see a properly certified surgeon with experience in nasal surgery, have a thorough consultation, and maintain realistic expectations about the results.
